While there is no single law mandating LED upgrades, lighting sits firmly within a business's broader duty to operate its electrical installation safely and efficiently under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS 7671. Many businesses are also under increasing pressure from energy performance certificate requirements, landlord green lease clauses, and their own sustainability or net zero commitments, all of which make lighting upgrades a practical and cost-effective compliance and efficiency measure.

Our process begins with a free site survey to assess existing lighting types, fitting quantities, circuit arrangements and how the space is actually used, including operating hours and whether different areas would benefit from controls such as occupancy sensing or daylight linking. We take note of any specific lighting requirements, such as retail display lighting, warehouse task lighting or office glare control.

From the survey we produce an itemised quotation showing fitting counts, specification and pricing, along with an estimate of the expected reduction in lighting energy consumption where this can be reasonably calculated. This lets you weigh the upfront investment against the ongoing running cost savings before committing to the project.

Installation is carried out with minimal disruption, often phased area by area or scheduled out of hours in occupied retail and office environments. Existing fittings are removed and new LED luminaires installed and connected, with any associated control wiring for sensors or dimming systems fitted at the same time.

Where a site would benefit, we also carry out power factor correction, which improves the efficiency of the electrical supply by reducing reactive power drawn from the grid. This is particularly relevant to industrial sites with significant motor loads, where a poor power factor can lead to higher demand charges from the electricity supplier.

All work is tested and commissioned to BS 7671 standards, with lighting circuits, RCD protection and any control systems fully checked before handover. As a NICEIC approved contractor, we issue full electrical certification for the completed installation.

On completion you receive certification for the electrical work, details of the fittings and controls installed, and where relevant supporting information you can use towards EPC assessment or internal sustainability reporting. We can also advise on maintenance requirements for the new lighting as part of an ongoing maintenance contract.
