Commercial Electrical Installation

Commercial electrical installation covers the design, first and second fix wiring, and final testing and commissioning of the electrical systems within a commercial building. This includes power distribution, lighting circuits, containment and cable management, data and communications first fix, and connections for fixed equipment, plant and machinery. Whether the work is a new build shell fit-out, a full refurbishment or a partial upgrade of an existing installation, the scope is planned and delivered as a coordinated package rather than a series of disconnected jobs.

This service is for anyone bringing a commercial space into use or bringing an existing one up to current standards: developers preparing a shell unit for occupation, businesses relocating or expanding into new premises, landlords carrying out a Category A or Category B fit-out, and facilities teams managing a phased refurbishment of an occupied building. Every commercial electrical installation must meet the requirements of BS 7671, the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, and where relevant the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which place a duty on employers and building operators to ensure electrical systems do not give rise to danger. Getting the design and installation right from the outset avoids expensive retrofitting later and ensures the finished installation is certified and ready for occupation, insurance and any building control sign-off that applies to the project.

We begin every project with a free site survey and, where required, early input into the electrical design alongside architects or M&E consultants. This lets us identify load requirements, distribution board locations, containment routes and any coordination needed with other trades before work starts on site, reducing the risk of clashes or late changes once installation is underway.

Following the survey we issue an itemised quotation that breaks down materials, labour and any specialist works such as data cabling or standby power connections, so you know exactly what you are paying for before committing. For larger or phased projects we agree a programme of works with clear milestones, so progress can be tracked against the wider construction or fit-out timetable.

On site, our engineers carry out first fix containment and cable installation, followed by second fix of accessories, luminaires, distribution boards and final connections. We coordinate closely with other trades such as ceiling contractors, shopfitters and mechanical contractors to keep the programme moving and avoid abortive work.

Every installation is fully tested and commissioned before handover, including insulation resistance, earth loop impedance, RCD operation and functional testing of lighting and power circuits. We issue Electrical Installation Certificates for new work and Minor Works Certificates for smaller alterations, all completed to BS 7671 standard and backed by our NICEIC approved contractor status.

Documentation matters as much as the physical installation. On completion you receive full certification, as-fitted drawings where applicable, and O&M style information covering the installation, so you have a complete record for future maintenance, insurance purposes or subsequent EICR inspections.
